Reading Terminal Market Announces Two New Merchants

PHILADELPHIA – On Thursday, October 6, Reading Terminal Market officials announced the addition of two new merchants coming soon to the renowned Philadelphia public market. Shibumi Farm and Fox & Son Fancy Corndogs and will deliver specialty items unlike any that Reading Terminal shoppers and diners have seen before.

Shibumi Farm will provide more than 35 unique species of locally grown mushrooms throughout the year. As one of only 200 recognized mushroom farms in the United States, Shibumi will offer 10-15 types of cultivated mushrooms that no other grower in the country has to offer. In addition to selling different types including pink oyster, hen-of-the-woods, shiitake and pioppino, Shibumi will sell a variety of products special to Reading Terminal including mushroom stocks, pastas, vegetarian and vegan pâtés and faux-crab cakes made of mushrooms that have the taste and texture of fresh crab meat. Shibumi Farm was founded in Princeton, NJ four years ago by Alan Kaufman, former investment banker with a life-long passion for fungi.

Fox & Son will offer freshly-made, unique corn dogs along with specialty poutines, Birchrun Hill Farm squeaky cheese curds, and “dressed-up” baked potatoes. While Fox & Son will serve the traditional corn dog, its menu will also include gluten-free, vegetarian and other allergy-friendly varieties to serve all likes of food lovers. Fox & Son’s owners are familiar with running a business out of Reading Terminal Market; two of the owners, Rebecca Foxman and Ezekial Ferguson, have managed the Valley Shepherd Creamery & Meltkraft Grilled Cheese stall for the past 4 years.

The openings of Fox & Son and Shibumi Farm are set for the spring of 2017, and will split the merchant stand previously occupied by the Salumeria location at the market.
