Job Description
The Communications Specialist supports client campaigns by managing media relations, drafting press and digital materials, and assisting with coordinating media events. This role will assist account executives with monitoring media coverage and maintaining press lists. The role also involves social media management, content creation, and helping execute strategic communication plans. Strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential, as the coordinator will work closely with clients and team members to ensure smooth campaign execution. This is a fast-paced role that requires multitasking, creativity, and attention to detail.
Essential Functions
- Draft talking points, statements, media advisories, press releases, digital content, and other written work product.
- Plan editorial calendars.
- Build and maintain media lists.
- Develop or help manage email campaigns, including implementation.
- Utilize strong project management skills to track and deliver projects on time.
- Assist with layout and design efforts for digital graphics, annual reports, and other projects, as needed.
- Attend media events, as needed.
- Research suitable marketing and PR opportunities for the Philadelphia market, as needed.
- Assist with media relations on an as needed basis.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
- An ability to articulate and clearly communicate complex issues in a simple, logical and impactful manner.
- Experience in creating written and visual content for the following social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X (Twitter).
- Experience creating visual presentations/pitch decks.
- Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to handle simultaneous priority projects and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to establish and foster relationships with partners and to work as part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent self-direction, follow-through and ability to take ownership of given responsibilities.
Supplemental Skills and Abilities (Preferred, but not Required)
- Basic levels of graphic design experience for print and digital media – can be based on use of free platforms such as Canva. Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
- Photography, videography, or other multi-media skills.
- Experience using WordPress and HTML/CSS.
- Experience with Constant Contact, MailChimp and other email distribution platforms.
- Research and data analysis skills.
- Social media ad buying experience.
- Multilingual language skills.
Education and Experience Requirements
- 1-3 years of experience in public relations, digital content management, communications, marketing, or related fields.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
