Standing atop the Greater Philadelphia ecosystem of minority business development was never an issue for Della Clark and The Enterprise Center. But effectively communicating the mission and vision of a multi-faceted non-profit in simple terms was a challenge for the organization.
Bellevue began working with The Enterprise Center in 2021, and helped to build a communications framework from the ground up for the organization. The year 2022 represented a breakthrough for our media relations work, capped in August by The Philadelphia Business Journal naming Della Clark its Diversity in Business Lifetime Achievement Award winner.
We set out together in 2023 with three concrete goals:
- Advance the narrative of Black and brown excellence across multiple business sectors;
- Address lack of access to capital for minority business owners;
- Elevate established and emerging voices within The Enterprise Center other than Della Clark;
Working closely with The Enterprise Center, we drafted and pitched more than a dozen different press releases and media events throughout the year. These included information on seed investments in minority businesses, a mayoral candidates forum, and events throughout the region aimed at connecting minority business owners with large institutional contracting opportunities. In addition to consistent media outreach, we regularly sourced and submitted nominations for local awards including Women in Business, Rising Stars, and Veterans in Business.
For the calendar year 2023, we attracted nearly 70 unique media hits across print, digital, television and radio. The resulting media mentions generated more than 8.3 million impressions with a total publicity value of $101,000. Two executive leaders for The Enterprise Center were honored for their diversity efforts in both Philadelphia and New Jersey publications, further elevating interior voices.
In September 2023, Governor Josh Shapiro visited The Enterprise Center to unveil a new executive order aimed at helping minority business owners access state contracts. The election of Cherelle Parker as Mayor of Philadelphia in November 2023 resulted in Della Clark being named vice-chair of the mayoral transition team for the incoming Parker administration.
